Recently we’ve been asked about the use of significator cards. If you’re unfamiliar with the term, a significator is used to represent either a specific person or an aspect in your life to help focus a reading with regard to a particular subject. We thought it would be helpful to supply a list of the key cards we use for particular questions to create a theme when using the Story Spread:
Guardian of the Books – If your question concerns your career or occupation.
The Hero – for use when the question concerns yourself or your male partner.
The Heroine - for use when the question concerns yourself or your female partner.
The Elder – can be used for a question concerning an older family member.
Innocence – when the question concerns a child
The Fellowship – This significator can be especially useful when the question concerns a group of friends or associates.
Kissed – if it concerns a love interest or maters of the heart… whereas…
Union – if your question concerns you both as a couple (for instance, buying property together, or something of joint concern).
Ruler of the Realm – questions concerning authority figures, the law, government etc.
Treasure – For use in all money matters.
Castle – property or home and family.
The Hero II – This card can be chosen to represent a man who is not yourself or your male partner. For example it could stand for any male relative, a male boss or a colleague.
The Heroine II – This card can be chosen to represent a woman who is not yourself or your female partner. For example it could stand for any female relative, a female boss or a colleague – as with The Hero II, the cards will respond to your intent.
Significator cards are not limited to those shown here, but these are the main cards that we use to create a theme for our readings. As long as your intention is clear before you begin and you receive accurate results then feel free to experiment with others.
One important thing to note is that if you use a certain card as a significator then you’re taking it out of play, meaning that it cannot appear in the reading. If the card is one that we would look for as an outcome it’s best to leave it in the deck and choose a different theme card.
For instance, if you wanted to know about love it may be better to leave Kissed in the deck and use the card to signify you instead (Hero or Heroine), as Kissed may be one of the cards you’d look for in the reading. You’ll also find an example and more information on this technique on page 148 - 151 of The Chronicles of Destiny guidebook.
