The Gatekeeper: Opening Doors

This week on Twitter I was talking with Steven Bright, a professional tarot reader and deck creator I recently connected with. I had posted a daily card from the deck, The Gatekeeper, and he immediately commented on the clarity of the message: doors being opened for you. Steven told me that he'd never got on well with oracle cards previously because of vague definitions, so it was lovely to see a deck with 'real' and useful messages.

And that was our aim and what we set out to achieve with Chronicles, an oracle deck that spoke clearly with defined responses. One of the problems people often experience with various forms of cartomancy, is that the placement or context of a card can leave a lot of room for interpretation and we wanted to avoid that, so far as possible. People want clear answers, straight away, especially in today’s world.

Some of our cards are depicted as characters, Guardian of the Books, The Dreamcatcher, Ruler of the Realm, etc, whilst others were named very clearly to reflect their meaning: Downfall, Bliss, Sorrow, Victory, Conflict, so there's no confusion as to their meaning. Of course these one-word titles are expanded upon, but for a quick reading a simple glance can often convey the heart of the message. It also makes the cards easier to learn.

There were occasions when we pondered the response we received, but we ‘test drove’ the deck over a lengthy period of time whilst creating it, recording all our readings to test accuracy and see how situations turned out. Disguised behind their apparent simplicity we discovered the cards to be quite profound. As you know, we felt the deck took on a life of it’s own and we were merely architects in bringing them into being.

As with The Gatekeeper, we hope they open doors for you, removing obstacles and secrets on your card-reading journey.

Happy adventures!

I know some readers who like their card meanings to be open but I prefer to know exactly what I am looking at - especially in a professional reading. I need something to begin with. There are some oracles which have cards which could mean 'this', 'this' or 'that'. There are others which have cards like 'You are Loved', which is all very nice, but not very useful in my kind of readings and is probably more suited to a daily affirmation or for some kind of spiritual comfort.

Of course, we all have different needs but I have been disappointed many times by oracles I've bought and found personally unusable. Often, I find a system which works, but I don't like the artwork. Or, I like the artwork and the system doesn't suit my reading style. I ordered your deck because I like the look of both the system and artwork and from what I've seen of Chronicles, I could imagine taking it into a professional workspace and using it for others.

Thanks Steven. We know just what you mean and worked hard to avoid this with our deck. We hope you find it packs a potent punch... in the nicest possible way, of course :) x
